70-mile ride to Corvallis — it’s much easier than expected as it’s almost completely flat! We take the Willamette Scenic Bikeway, a network of low-traffic farm roads that head south to Eugene. It takes a while to find a place that isn’t at risk of being mowed or sprayed.
We take a pit stop in Salem and come across a festival in the park — and find a host of milkweed to boot! Upon some research, we learned that the mayor made a pledge to restore monarch habitat in the city. Great. We watch some beautiful ranchero dancing/music while Ale plants some milkweed to expand upon the existing showy milkweed in the park’s plot.
When we get to Corvallis, Ale notices that his rear rack is wobbling. Turns out it had completely snapped! He tapes it back together with Mel, our Warm Showers host, and we decide to hope for the best until he can get a replacement in Eugene.
