Alejandro was not lying about the grueling climb up to this way station. After finding the signpost from his geophone recording last fall, I unfortunately discovered that the winter plowing crews had pushed a mound of gravel off the road and all around the planting site. The seeds are probably down there somewhere, and who knows how long they might survive at the bottom of that gravel pile? Perhaps years or even decades from now milkweed will spring from beneath this gravel pile. Or perhaps some bird or rodent will dig them up and carry them to another site. I planted about 20' toward the mountain from the signpost, next to a small patch of yarrow. Hopefully next spring the milkweed will join the yarrow and provide some food and habitat for passing pollinators.
