A few miles' detour down a gravel road brought me to this tranquil campground near Hog Lake, about 40 miles southwest of Spokane. I was able to find a nice flat little bowl to pitch my tent, sheltered from both the wind and the noise of the nearby freight line. When I awoke the next morning I found myself in a beautiful stand of ponderosa pines, carpeted with a bouquet of flowers: wild geraniums, yarrow, and, lo and behold, some milkweed sprouting up! This delightful place seems like the perfect stop for a cyclist or a butterfly. I sowed seeds, played a little banjo along with the wind and the meadowlarks, then headed on my way
