Had time for one last ride before snow and cold make bicycle trips much more difficult. Today’s first destination was Hurst Flower Meadow— a beautiful oasis along a bike path called the Great Northern Historical Trail. Formerly a desolate pasture full of invasive weeds, the owner Catherine has turned it into a beautiful organic flower garden. At the end of the season, she and her daughter dry the leftover flowers and make them into artwork.
Catherine not only cleared a nice irrigated plot for the milkweed seeds, but she donated to the Soundmap project and even bought a little butterfly ornament to mark the waystation— it looked just like the one I found at the Swan Valley Community Library! This will be a lovely place to return to in the spring and summer, hopefully the monarchs will be there too!
