After searching in vain for milkweed seedlings at many waystation sites, I at last come upon the site where Alejandro and I parted ways last fall. Lo and behold, a half dozen milkweed seedlings sprouting valiantly from the gravel near the railroad tracks! Of all the places we planted, this is one where we had some of the lowest expectations-- a dry and dusty site with lots of traffic and disturbance. I pulled up most of the competing weeds and added a few more seeds. Hopefully they survive the summer and return again next year!
